Ryanair called German Transport Minister Dr. Volker Wissing to immediately fix the country’s ailing air transport system, starting with the abolition of the air traffic tax between €15 ($16) and €70 ($76) per ticket, depending on the distance, the reduction of air traffic control fees (+100% since 2019). Additionally, Ryanair is requesting a delay in the planned 50% increase in security fees, set to take effect in January 2025.

The carrier stated “As soon as access costs in Germany are competitive, Ryanair is ready to implement a solid 7-year growth plan with the aim of increasing passenger volume in Germany from the current 17 million to at least 34 million passengers per year. This growth spurt would not only promote the recovery of air traffic in Germany after Covid, but also ensure that it is comparable with other EU countries.”
