Irish carrier Ryanair, announced a major expansion of its flight schedule at Klagenfurt Airport for summer 2025. Ryanair will provide approximately 21,000 additional seats on three routes, increasing the total annual capacity to approximately 104,000 passengers. In total, Ryanair will offer 18 weekly flights to and from Klagenfurt, including Alicante (x 2 weekly) , London Stansted (x 2 weekly) , and Palma de Mallorca (x 5 weekly).
Ryanair stated it remains committed to Austria, as demonstrated by the 160% increase in our traffic since 2019, the addition of Linz to the Ryanair network in winter 2024, and the launch of new summer routes to Linz and Salzburg. Ryanair’s rapid expansion has contributed significantly to the recovery of traffic in Austria and thus made an important contribution to Austrian tourism.
Ryanair Spokesman and Lauda Europe CEO Andreas Gruber stated “We are pleased to offer our Austrian guests great travel options and provide an additional 21,000 seats to/from Klagenfurt in the coming summer season. However, Austria is one of the few EU countries still struggling to reach pre-Covid traffic levels. High air traffic taxes, excessive airport fees, and the high ticket prices of Lufthansa subsidiary AUA are hampering the development of the aviation sector in Austria. Ryanair therefore reiterates its call on the new Austrian government to abolish the harmful €12 air travel tax and implement cost-cutting measures to promote tourism, employment, and economic recovery. Ryanair could enable significantly more traffic growth in Austria over the next five years, from which regional airports like Klagenfurt would significantly benefit – but only if the government abolishes this harmful tax, as the governments of Sweden, Hungary, Slovakia, and Italy have already done.”
