IndiGo announced the first phase of expansion into European market with two new routes from Delhi to Amsterdam and Manchester each 3x weekly to commence in July 2025, subject to completion of all operational preparedness and regulatory approvals. The airline added the arrival of additional aircraft from Norse later this year the frequencies could further grow. IndiGo is evaluating multiple other important markets across Europe to further expand its long-haul footprint.
Earlier this year, IndiGo expanded the Norse Atlantic agreement to include the damp lease of three additional aircraft, scheduled to join the fleet towards the second half of this year. These additional three damp-leases will bring the total to four and IndiGo and Norse continue to explore opportunities to broaden the cooperation and possibility for contracting more aircraft.
The 787s will enable IndiGo to make an early entry into the long-haul market and establish itself in Europe , while the airline awaits the delivery of its 40 Airbus A321 XLR and 30 A350-900, from 2025-2027 onwards.
Before the end of this decade, the Indian economy is expected to grow from being the world’s 5th largest today to being the 3rd largest. Specifically in aviation, the Indian government has stated its mission to ensure that by 2030 India comes into her own on the world stage of aviation leadership by building cutting-edge infrastructure and developing the country into a global aviation hub.
Over the past two years, IndiGo has been already building its brand presence in Europe through multiple codeshare partnerships connecting several European cities to India including Turkish Airlines via Istanbul to Dublin. In a InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo) presentation titled “Towards New Heights & Across New Frontiers” dated 19 March on slide 27 “Connecting the world one dot at a time” the airline identified Dublin as future destination.
